MERAKAN LITE — BILLING & REFUND POLICY
Effective Date: 15 October 2026
Version 2026-10-15
This Billing & Refund Policy (“Billing Policy”) governs MERAKAN’s pricing, subscription access, usage units, promotional offers, cancellation effects, billing administration, and supplier-side refund decisions for MERAKAN Lite (“Service”).
Paid website transactions are processed through Paddle as authorized reseller and Merchant of Record. This Policy applies when paid subscriptions or add-ons are offered; the standard 14-day free trial does not require a payment instrument and does not automatically convert into a paid subscription.
1. Business-to-Business Service
MERAKAN Lite is offered as a business-to-business (“B2B”) service.
By subscribing to a paid plan, the Customer represents that:
- it is acting for business or organizational purposes;
- the person accepting the subscription has authority to bind the Customer; and
- the billing information provided for the transaction is authorized for that Customer.
2. Paddle as Authorized Reseller and Merchant of Record
For paid transactions completed on the MERAKAN website, the applicable Paddle entity acts as MERAKAN’s authorized reseller and Merchant of Record for the transaction. The Buyer purchases the applicable subscription or add-on through Paddle under Paddle’s then-current Buyer Terms, Refund Policy, and checkout terms, while MERAKAN remains responsible for providing the Service under the MERAKAN Terms.
Paddle may administer payment collection, recurring billing, transaction receipts and invoices, transaction-level refunds, and applicable transaction taxes. MERAKAN does not directly receive or store full payment-card numbers, card security codes, or online-banking credentials.
3. Current MERAKAN Lite Subscription
The current standard MERAKAN Lite subscription is:
$20 USD per month
The subscription includes:
- 500 processing units per monthly billing period; and
- a maximum of 60 processing units per day.
The 500 included units reset at the start of each billing period, as set by the payment provider, and unused included units do not carry over. The daily limit of 60 is counted per calendar day, from midnight to midnight, in the time zone recorded for the account when it was created. Subscriptions are monthly only; no annual plan is offered.
Unless expressly stated otherwise at checkout or in a written promotion, unused monthly units do not constitute cash, credit, or a refundable balance.
4. Processing Units
Processing units are usage entitlements associated with the applicable Service plan.
Units are consumed according to the Service's applicable processing rules. One unit is consumed for each successful AI extraction of one document, including a successful re-extraction. Uploading a file, a failed extraction attempt and manual entry consume no units. A consumed unit is not returned if the extracted document is later deleted, whether before or after it is saved.
MERAKAN may establish reasonable technical controls to enforce applicable daily, monthly, concurrency, or other usage limits. Current technical controls: up to 20 uploaded files awaiting extraction per account, and up to 3 extraction attempts per file.
Units:
- have no cash value;
- are not redeemable for money;
- are not transferable between Customers;
- do not create a monetary credit balance; and
- do not constitute stored monetary value.
5. Add-On Unit Packs
Where available, additional processing units may be purchased separately.
The current standard add-on pricing is:
- 500 units — $22 USD
- 300 units — $18 USD
- 100 units — $12 USD
Add-on units are a purchased balance that does not expire. They are used only after the units included in the current billing period are exhausted, and any unused balance remains available in later billing periods. The plan’s daily limit still applies when add-on units are used. Add-on packs are offered to accounts with an active paid subscription; during the free trial the upgrade offered is a subscription. If the subscription ends, the unused balance is kept but cannot be used until a subscription is active again. Unused included and add-on units are forfeited without refund when the account is deleted, except where a refund is required by law or available under Paddle’s applicable refund terms.
Availability, eligibility, and applicable pricing may be presented at checkout.
6. Free Trial
MERAKAN Lite currently offers a 14-day free trial without requiring a payment instrument. Trial usage is limited to 3 processing units per day and 42 processing units in total.
The standard trial does not create a paid subscription and does not automatically convert into a paid plan. When the trial ends without a subscription, the account becomes read-only with export available for 30 days, which MERAKAN may extend by notice to the account Owner; the account is then marked for deletion and its active data is deleted within the following 30 days, subject to the Terms and retention schedule.
Any separate promotional trial may have different duration or usage terms that will be disclosed before participation.
7. Trial Eligibility and Abuse Prevention
The trial is intended for legitimate evaluation of MERAKAN Lite.
MERAKAN may limit, deny, or terminate trial access where it reasonably determines that a person or organization is attempting to obtain repeated or extended trial access through multiple accounts, identities, organizations, or other circumvention methods.
MERAKAN may retain a limited trial-abuse indicator for up to 24 months where reasonably necessary for abuse prevention, security, and enforcement.
Where used, the indicator is a one-way keyed fingerprint derived from the sign-up email address — not the address itself and not Customer Content. It is kept for that period even after the account is deleted, and is then deleted automatically. Where the marker is in use, an email address that has already had a trial may be registered without a new trial, and disposable email domains may be refused at sign-up.
8. Subscription Authorization
Before a paid subscription is created, the material billing terms are presented through the applicable checkout, including price, billing frequency, included usage, and renewal information. On the website, the payment transaction is completed through Paddle checkout.
By completing the checkout, the Customer authorizes the transaction and recurring billing arrangement under the terms presented by Paddle. MERAKAN may keep limited evidence and subscription metadata necessary to provision access, including Paddle customer/subscription identifiers, subscription status, billing period, billing country, and transaction-event identifiers.
9. Recurring Monthly Billing
Paid MERAKAN Lite subscriptions renew on a monthly basis unless cancelled in accordance with this Billing Policy.
The applicable recurring subscription price is the price presented to and accepted by the Customer, subject to:
- applicable promotional pricing;
- a subsequent price change properly communicated under this Policy; or
- a different price expressly agreed with the Customer.
10. Renewal
Unless cancelled before the next renewal, a paid website subscription renews for successive monthly billing periods. Paddle processes the renewal transaction under the recurring billing authorization and the then-current transaction terms.
The Customer is responsible for cancelling before the next renewal if it does not wish to continue.
11. Cancellation
Customers may cancel a paid website subscription through the cancellation mechanism made available by MERAKAN or through the applicable Paddle billing interface.
Cancellation stops future renewals but does not automatically create a right to reverse a transaction already processed. Unless otherwise stated, paid access continues through the end of the already-paid billing period, after which the account becomes read-only with export available for 30 days (Terms Section 33). Cancelling a subscription does not delete the account or Customer Data.
12. Cancellation and Charges
A cancellation request does not automatically reverse a transaction that has already been successfully processed. Transaction-level refunds are handled through Paddle subject to mandatory law, Paddle’s applicable refund terms, and any supplier-side refund approval communicated by MERAKAN.
Nothing in this Section limits rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
13. Refund Policy
Paddle’s then-current Buyer Terms and Refund Policy apply to transaction-level refund rights for purchases processed by Paddle. Except where required by applicable law, caused by a verified billing error, expressly approved by MERAKAN, or otherwise available under Paddle’s applicable terms, paid subscription charges are generally non-refundable after processing.
Where MERAKAN approves a supplier-side refund or credit, MERAKAN may communicate that approval to Paddle, and Paddle processes the transaction funds. A discretionary refund or credit does not create a continuing obligation to provide the same result in later cases.
If a subscription transaction is refunded, MERAKAN may end paid access and move the account to read-only status with export available; refunding the transaction does not itself delete Customer Data.
14. Add-On Refunds
Add-on unit purchases are generally non-refundable after processing except where required by law, caused by a verified billing error, available under Paddle’s applicable refund terms, or expressly approved by MERAKAN and processed through Paddle.
Partial use may affect the amount or availability of a discretionary refund. If a pack is fully or partially refunded, MERAKAN may remove the corresponding refunded units from the add-on balance.
15. Billing Errors
For suspected duplicate charges, incorrect amounts, subscription-state issues, or other billing discrepancies, contact billing@merakan.com and provide sufficient information to identify the transaction. MERAKAN may investigate its Service records and coordinate with Paddle where appropriate.
For payment-method, card-processing, or Paddle transaction-support matters, the Customer may also be directed to Paddle’s buyer-support process.
16. Payment Failures
If a payment fails, is declined, reversed, expires, or cannot otherwise be collected, Paddle may retry the transaction or request updated payment information according to its systems and the applicable configuration. MERAKAN currently provides a three-day grace period for a failed renewal before paid functionality becomes read-only, unless a different period is displayed or required by law.
When MERAKAN receives confirmation that payment succeeded, full paid access may be restored with existing data intact. MERAKAN may restrict or terminate paid access if amounts remain unpaid.
17. Taxes
Paddle may calculate, collect, invoice, and remit applicable transaction-level sales, use, value-added, goods-and-services, or similar taxes where required in connection with transactions for which Paddle acts as authorized reseller and Merchant of Record.
MERAKAN remains responsible for its own corporate, income, franchise, payroll, and other taxes that legally apply to MERAKAN. Nothing in this Policy allocates MERAKAN’s corporate tax obligations to Paddle.
18. Promotional Offers
MERAKAN may offer promotional pricing or other commercial incentives from time to time.
Promotional offers may include, without limitation:
- discount codes;
- coupon codes;
- promotional codes;
- first-month discounts;
- seasonal promotions;
- partner or referral offers;
- customer-specific pricing;
- promotional subscription rates;
- extended or modified trial periods; or
- other limited-time offers.
Each promotion may have specific terms concerning:
- eligibility;
- duration;
- expiration;
- applicable plan;
- applicable units;
- whether the offer may be combined with another promotion;
- whether the offer applies to new or existing Customers;
- the regular price after the promotional period; and
- any other material condition.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, a promotional price applies only for the period specified in the applicable offer and does not permanently change the standard subscription price. A promotional offer changes the price only; the usage limits are those of the plan unless the offer expressly states otherwise. An extended or modified trial should state both its duration and its unit allocation, because the standard allocation of 42 units equals 14 days at 3 units per day — extending the days alone would not add usable units.
19. Discount and Coupon Codes
A discount, coupon, or promotional code may be:
- limited to one Customer or account;
- limited to one transaction or promotional period;
- restricted to particular plans;
- subject to an expiration date;
- non-transferable;
- non-redeemable for cash; or
- unavailable in combination with other offers.
MERAKAN may reject a code where it has expired, has already been used, is not applicable to the transaction, or appears to have been obtained or used contrary to the applicable promotional terms.
20. Promotional Pricing and Renewal
If a Customer receives a promotional price for an initial period, the subscription may renew at the standard applicable price after the promotional period unless the offer expressly states otherwise.
The applicable promotional duration and subsequent pricing should be presented in the applicable offer or checkout flow.
The Customer is responsible for reviewing the applicable promotional terms before completing the transaction.
21. Price Changes
MERAKAN may change subscription prices, add-on prices, included usage, or other commercial terms from time to time.
Price changes will not retroactively alter a transaction that has already been completed.
Where a price change affects a recurring subscription, MERAKAN will provide appropriate notice where required by applicable law or the applicable agreement.
The Customer may cancel future renewals if it does not wish to continue at the new price.
22. No Automatic Conversion From the Standard Trial
The standard 14-day free trial does not automatically convert into a paid subscription.
If MERAKAN introduces a different promotional structure in the future, the applicable commercial terms will be presented before the Customer accepts that offer.
No Customer will be charged merely because the standard trial expires.
23. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes
Customers should first contact MERAKAN or Paddle, as appropriate, regarding suspected billing errors or unauthorized transactions where reasonably practicable. Nothing in this Section prevents the Customer from exercising non-waivable rights under applicable law or payment-network rules.
Fraudulent or abusive chargeback activity may result in account review, restriction, or termination where permitted by the Terms.
24. Billing Records
MERAKAN and Paddle may maintain records reasonably necessary to administer subscriptions, payments, refunds, cancellations, promotional offers, billing disputes, transaction history, taxes, and legal or accounting obligations.
MERAKAN itself keeps only the billing information reasonably necessary to control Service access and usage, such as Paddle customer/subscription identifiers, status, billing-period dates, provider event identifiers and timestamps, billing country, add-on purchases and balances, and unit-usage records. Paddle retains payment-method details, transaction amounts, transaction invoices/receipts, and other buyer transaction records under its own policies and legal obligations.
25. Billing Information
Full payment-card numbers, card security codes, and online-banking credentials are entered with Paddle and do not reach MERAKAN. Paddle sends MERAKAN transaction or subscription events, and MERAKAN may query Paddle for current status.
MERAKAN uses the resulting limited metadata only for billing administration, fraud prevention, reconciliation, access control, and related legal or support purposes described in the Privacy Policy.
26. Paddle Transaction Services
Paddle independently operates its checkout, payment, reseller, tax, buyer-support, and transaction infrastructure under Paddle’s applicable terms, policies, and legal obligations.
Nothing in this Policy is intended to disclaim or transfer responsibilities that legally belong to Paddle in its role as authorized reseller or Merchant of Record, or responsibilities that legally belong to MERAKAN as supplier and provider of MERAKAN Lite.
27. No Professional Advice
Payments, invoices, receipts, extracted information, and Service outputs do not constitute accounting, tax, legal, financial, or other professional advice.
Customers remain responsible for reviewing financial and business records and determining whether they are suitable for their intended use.
AI-assisted extraction may contain errors or omissions.
28. Service Changes and Commercial Availability
MERAKAN may modify, discontinue, or change commercial plans, add-ons, promotions, or usage allocations from time to time, subject to applicable contractual and legal requirements.
A change to a future commercial offering does not retroactively modify completed transactions.
29. Termination and Final Billing
If the Customer's account or subscription is terminated, amounts properly due before termination remain payable.
Unless otherwise required by law or expressly agreed:
- termination does not automatically create a refund;
- unused processing units do not have cash value; and
- future recurring charges will cease after effective cancellation or termination, subject to any applicable final billing obligations.
30. No Transfer or Cash Value
Subscriptions, processing units, promotional credits, discounts, and other Service entitlements:
- are not cash;
- are not redeemable for cash;
- are not transferable;
- are not securities or financial instruments; and
- do not create a deposit or stored-value account.
31. Relationship to Other Documents
This Billing Policy is part of the MERAKAN Lite contractual framework. For MERAKAN billing administration, subscription access, units, and supplier-side refund decisions, this Policy controls subject to mandatory law and any expressly negotiated written agreement.
Paddle’s Buyer Terms, Refund Policy, and checkout terms independently govern the transaction between the Buyer and the applicable Paddle entity.
32. Changes to This Billing Policy
MERAKAN may update this Billing Policy from time to time.
Material changes will be handled in accordance with the applicable notice and change procedures in the Terms.
The version applicable to a Customer will be identified by its effective date or version information.
33. Governing Law and Disputes
This Billing Policy is governed by the same governing-law, dispute-resolution, arbitration, class-action waiver, and related provisions stated in the MERAKAN Lite Terms & Conditions.
Nothing in this section limits rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
34. Severability
If any provision of this Billing Policy is determined to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect to the fullest extent permitted by law.
